Job Role at EMG
I am a Solicitor at the firm and joined EMG in February 2019. I spend most of my time working in our Court of Protection health and welfare department and I am starting to gain experience working with clients who have been sectioned under the Mental Health Act. The majority of my current work involves representing and providing advice to clients who lack the capacity to make decisions for themselves, particularly in relation to their care and residence. I also represent family members of those who lack capacity to make their own decisions. I run my own case load and also assist other fee earners.
I graduated from Northumbria University with an integrated masters degree in Law in 2016. I then worked for the social media team at Barclays Bank, before moving to Australia for a year-long working holiday. When “Down Under” I worked for a private medical insurance company which involved providing advice to clients who were due to visit hospital for planned procedures and operations. I returned to the UK towards the end of 2018 in order to progress my legal career and was welcomed to the EMG family early 2019. I secured a training contract only two weeks before the start of the first national lockdown and was lucky enough to carry on with my role throughout the pandemic. I qualified as a solicitor in September 2021.
What do you like about working at EMG?
Everyone at EMG is extremely approachable, despite their busy workloads. Everyone genuinely wants to see you do well and succeed. Working in the Court of Protection team is a particular highlight as I am privileged enough to work with clients when they are at their most vulnerable, which in itself brings its own challenges. No two days are the same.
Outside of EMG?
In my free time you can usually find me socialising with friends/family or on holiday, whether that be abroad or in the Lake District with my dog Ozzy.
