Job Role at EMG
I am a paralegal at the firm and joined EMG in February 2019. The majority of my work involves representing and providing advice to clients who lack the capacity to make decisions for themselves, particularly in relation to their care and residence. I also help out with our deputyship and trust clients with regards to their property and affairs.
I graduated from Northumbria University with an integrated masters degree in Law in 2016. I then worked for the social media team at Barclays Bank, before moving to Australia for a year-long working holiday. When “Down Under” I worked for a private medical insurance company which involved providing advice to clients who were due to visit hospital for planned procedures and operations. I returned to the UK towards the end of 2018 in order to progress my legal career and was welcomed to the EMG family early 2019. The next goal is to secure a training contract at the firm and qualify as a solicitor.
What do you like about working at EMG?
Everyone at EMG is extremely approachable, despite their busy workloads. As a newbie, I had pretty much settled in before the first tea round. Working in the Court of Protection team is a particular highlight as I am privileged enough to work with clients when they are at their most vulnerable, which in itself brings its own challenges. No two days are the same. Weekly Greggs Friday’s is a definite bonus too (although my waistline may disagree!)
Outside of EMG?
In my free time you can usually find me socialising with friends/family or on holiday, whether that be abroad or in the Lake District. I’m also a Sunderland season ticket holder, but please don’t hold that against me…
