Claire FrenchAssociate Solicitor

Job Role at EMG

I am an Associate Solicitor in the Court of Protection team. I act for professional and lay deputies and trustees. I manage the property and financial affairs of vulnerable clients who have lost capacity for example due to a road traffic accident, birth injury, learning disability, dementia. I help with the day to day management of a client’s financial affairs and more complex decisions such as working alongside independent financial advisers to investment money. I liaise with the family, care team (e.g. therapists), financial advisers, and others to ensure the best outcome for the client. I advise on and draft applications to the Court of Protection including applications to appointment/replace a deputy, to put in place a statutory will, to sell/purchase a property.

I qualified as a solicitor in 2014 having previously worked as a chartered accountant at a leading accountancy and business advisory firm in London. I have specialised in Court of Protection work, wills, trusts and estate administration since qualification, and since joining EMG Solicitors in October 2019 focus predominately on Court of Protection work. I am a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners having achieved a worldwide excellence award for being the highest scoring student in my Trust and Estate Accounting exam and distinction in my Advanced Certificate in Advising Vulnerable Clients. I am also a full member of Solicitors for the Elderly.

What you like about working at EMG?

At EMG Solicitors there is a great sense of each and every member of the team working together to achieve the best for each client. The atmosphere is open, energetic and friendly.

Outside of EMG

Outside work I will probably be found covered in mud after being out and about with my springador or enjoying a cappuccino and a slice of cake in one of my favourite coffee shops!
