I am a Director of EMG Solicitors and head up the Will Trusts and Probate team. I have extensive experience advising clients and providing comprehensive and expert advice on all aspects of private client work including advising on and drafting Wills, mitigating inheritance tax and estate planning for individuals, business owners, farmers, executors and trustees, the administration of estates whether there is a Will or not, supporting families through the application for Grant of Probate, advice on and the preparation and registration of Lasting Powers of attorney, advice on and the preparation of ordinary powers of attorney, the registration of Enduing Powers of Attorney, the application for Deputyships at the Court of Protection and advising on and preparing trusts whether they be for assets protection reasons or to utilise inheritance tax reliefs. I care about my clients and wish to help and support them reach the outcome that they desire. I appreciate that many clients require my assistance during very difficult times in their lives and I try my best to be there for them.
I qualified as a solicitor in 2007 following completion of my training contract at a North East solicitors, staying there for 10 years before moving to EMG to take forward the Wills, Trusts and Probate team. I work across both of our offices with an excellent team of four. I am a member of the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners and have experience with writing Wills and trusts from the very straightforward to the extremely complex utilising all inheritance tax reliefs available and protecting vulnerable beneficiaries. Many of my clients are business owners where I have helped structure their estates to obtain the best tax position but simultaneously secure the wishes in relation to the ongoing running of the business after their day. I have assisted such clients before the sale of their business interests to mitigate inheritance tax down the line to preserve the best position for their family. I have extensive experience administering estates and co-wrote the solicitors practice guide, “A Practitioners Guide to Probate and the Administration of Estates”.
What do you like about working at EMG?
EMG is a fantastic firm to work for as I am supported to be the best solicitor I can be and to provide the best service to my clients. We are a flexible firm with our clients’ best interests at the forefront of our minds but the firm also supports us in our personal lives, which is a rare combination in our industry!
Outside of EMG
I am a mum to my two wonderful children and so I spend my time with my family whether this is watching them dance, swim, play football and cricket or generally get up to mischief. I love to read when I have time and walk in the Lake District where I am from.
Samantha qualified in October 2007.
