Ursula CollieConsultant Solicitor

Job Role at EMG

I am a consultant solicitor at EMG. I am Team Leader for the Litigation Team, which deals with a wide variety of legal disputes between individuals and businesses.

I qualified as a solicitor in Oxford in 1991 and I have specialised in civil litigation since then. I moved to the North East in 1996 and was employed first as a solicitor at a regional firm, before becoming a partner there in 1998. I moved to EMG as a consultant in 2016. One of my main specialisms is nowadays in disputes involving the Estates of deceased people, or Trusts. I am a member of ACTAPS, which is the Association of Contentious Trust and Probate Practitioners. I also deal with all manner of disputes involving land, ranging from residential title and land registration disputes, to commercial lease disputes, and not forgetting agricultural matters. Finally, I deal with contract and other disputes for businesses and individuals.

I am also a qualified mediator, having gained my mediation accreditation with CEDR in 2011. Although I run my mediation business outside EMG, the soft skills of a mediator are an invaluable counterpoint to the argumentative mindset that can go with the territory for a litigator.

What do you like about working at EMG?

The unashamedly ethical nature of the business. Also, the amount of cake.

Outside of EMG?

I’m a caver and hill-walker, and help my other half with his caving gear shop.
