Community Projects

Our EMG Community Fund was set up in December 2019 with the support of County Durham Community Foundation (CDCF) and has enabled us to support a range of community initiatives so far.

In the first round of funding in January 2020, we set up our EMG Community Group to involve members of our team and we were able to donate £20,000 in support of:

2020

Newcastle Women’s Aid, to provide DAFS (Domestic Abuse Flexible Support) services

The Millin Charity, a Local Enterprise Gateshead project

Laurel Avenue Association, who provide peer support for disadvantaged young women to provide positive experiences.

• Bowes FC were given a donation to renovate their clubhouse, helping to bring a community facility back into use at a time when it’s needed most.

• Clart About, a charity tackling social isolation amongst new mothers.

2021

Durham City Youth Project (DCYP), a specialist detached and outreach youth work charity in County Durham, providing street-based support to vulnerable young people since 1967.

• Durham Stickmakers, supporting elderly men across County Durham to socialise and learn the traditional craft of making walking sticks, canes, staffs and shepherds crooks.

Walk and Talk Trust, promoting the physical and mental health benefits associated with regular healthy exercise, specifically walking. Read more.

2022

Shildon Alive, we supported this amazing project which collects food surplus from supermarkets and wholesalers for food crisis support parcels as well as a free takeaway service for all school aged children and older vulnerable adults in the Shildon community. The team estimate to collect 60 tons of food surplus in 2022 which will help feed 1500 people living in food poverty.

Building Self Belief CIO, we supported this group with a grant which was spent on the expert delivery, and associated costs, of a 12 week ‘Teenage Boys’ Mental Wellbeing and Prevention of Poverty Programme’ to support vulnerable teenage boys in an area of high socio-economic deprivation.

COVID 19 Emergency Fund

The team at EMG Solicitors, like many, are very thankful for the work being undertaken by key workers, front line staff and those many charities who are seeing a huge demand on their services during the pandemic.

Recognising this, and as part of our ongoing commitment to supporting our wider community at this time, EMG Solicitors contributed a further £2,500 to the Foundation’s COVID Emergency Fund which launched at the end of March 2020.

Our contribution, along with other donations from the County Durham Community Foundation and support from the National Emergency Trust, has resulted in awards of over £900,000 now to groups who are dedicated to supporting those in need across County Durham with over 120,000 beneficiaries

Our contribution to the CDCF’s COVID Emergency Fund has helped 2 initiatives in particular RefUSE and Lifeline Community Action, read more about them by clicking on them.
